Raising Kids Doesn’t Mean Your Life Stops

Lots of people feel that having a child means that their life will automatically come to a standstill.

This however is not the case, and although you may find yourself having to make sacrifices (including major financial changes), there is no reason why your life has to drastically alter.

The key to having a child is to love and be responsible for him/ her. The beauty here is that you don’t need lots of money in order to do so. During the early stages of infancy, all your baby really needs are food, clothes, love, stimulation, and to be cared for. Not only does this not cost an arm or a leg, but if you’re sensible with your finances as well as spending habits, this should not make a drastic impact on your life.

Having a child should be seen as a positive addition to your life, not a hindrance. A child gives you the opportunity to grow into a responsible individual (regardless of your age), and it is an honour that shouldn’t be taken for granted. However, there is no reason why you cannot carry on living your life; the only difference now is that instead of living your life as spontaneous as you may have done previously, you should now live it considering the impact that your actions may have on your child.

Involve Your Child

Many people feel that by having a child, their lives are unable to continue to move forward until the day their child reaches a certain age, or flees the nest. Although during infancy your child will want lots of love and attention, there is no reason why you cannot allow your life to continue to move forward, whilst involving your child.

Work does not have to stop, as there is plenty of child care provision that will enable you to continue to further your employment and career progression. If you do not value the idea of allowing a stranger to care for your child, you will always have the option and use of family members that will be more than happy to look after, and fuss over the newest addition to the family. If you are a fan of the gym, you may also be able to make use of the child care facilities that some gyms provide nowadays.

Other aspects of your life, such as going on holiday, do not need to come to a halt either, as although you may not like the idea of taking your infant on a plane when she is only a few of months old, you could explore the sights and sounds of your home country, and have just as much fun. So many people overlook their home country due to the excitement of going abroad. However, the arrival of a little one gives you the opportunity to explore your native land in great detail.

Make use of Family and Friends

Although at times you may feel alone, and feel shut off from the outside world, you must remember that you are not. More than likely there will be family and friends sitting by the phone awaiting your call to invite them over; however they may not express this, as they may not want to impose on you so soon after childbirth.

If your family and friends are on standby and offer to help, why not let them. This offers you a well deserved break, gives them a chance to bond with your child, and gives you the opportunity to catch up on some YOU time.

Caring for a baby is never easy, however if you make use of all the help available to you, there is no reason why you have to go it alone. Furthermore, it is imperative that you try not to allow your life to stop, as your happiness will rub off onto your child’s life, as he/ she will learn through observing your behaviour.
