Program that Gives Parenting Help for Discipline Problems with Kids

The Total Transformation Program by James Lehman [Legacy Publishing, 2004] promises parents that the discipline problems they are having with their children will be resolved by the end of the program. There is a lot of hope offered to parents through this program. James Lehman, the author of the Total Transformation Program, has worked with troubled youth and their parents and professionals who work with the children for thirty years. He has developed this program that has transformed the lives of children time and again.
The Total Transformation Program
The introduction to the Total Transformation Program is all about giving parents hope and helping them to realize that they did not cause their children’s behavior problems. With a lot of psychological explanations and examples, James shares the importance of a child taking responsibility for his own behavior with the guidance of proper parenting.
In order for the Total Transformation Program to work, James requires parents to stand up and take responsibility for parenting their children appropriately. The program is laid out with a series of audio CD’s and a workbook. The workbook follows along easily with the CD’s, allowing parents to see the important points while they listen to James explaining each point in greater detail.
Strengths of the Total Transformation Program
James provides specific examples and action steps for parents through the Total Transformation Program. Parents are to implement each action step one week at a time. There is no question left as to what the parent should do next. James leaves each lesson with specific things that parents can do and say in specific situations. There is also a phone number for parents to call with specific parenting questions, although this does cost additional money.
The workbook is very interactive, providing check lists, pre and post tests and thought provoking questions for parents to work through. James helps parents understand the psychology behind effective parenting. Each of the seven lessons in this program includes specific action points for parents, including examples of how to implement the action point.
Weaknesses of the Total Transformation Program
The weakness of the Total Transformation Program is the length that it takes to complete. Each lesson takes time, approximately an hour each, and there is a lot of reading to go along with the lessons. In addition, each lesson is meant to take a week to implement before moving on, making the program take a couple of months to finish. In addition, the program is expensive, and the free one month trial offered on the Total Transformation Website does not allow for much of the program to be implemented before requiring parents to pay.
Much of what goes into each lesson includes understanding why children act the way they do. For parents who simply want to know what to do now, without all the explanations, this program will be tedious. There is a lot of emphasis placed upon understanding why children behave the way they do before parents are able to effectively change a behavior, making the information and time important to successful completion of the program.
James Lehman, through the Total Transformation Program, does not let the parents off the hook with an easy solution. There is no easy phrase or action a parent can take that will immediately solve all of their problems. This program takes effort and a lot of hard work on the part of the parent, but for the parents who are willing to step up to the plate, this program will work.
