» want2Bhappy2 - Parenting under pressure

I'm not going to write too much, as I'm new to this website and don't know if anyone will read this or respond. I've been looking for support for so very long to find others that are willing to openly discuss how hard it is to be a good parent when you experience chronic or frequent anxiety, pressure, fatigue, depression, etc. I have been in mom's clubs for 7 years and when I try to open up about such things as guilt, or feel bad about yelling at my kids, or anything, I just get silence from them, like they never experience those things, which I feel unlikely. They are just too proud to open up, or their lives are much more stable and calm as mine. What about anyone else?

want2Bhappy2,

You are not alone. There isn't a parent out there that doesn't sometimes struggle with low energy, low moods or low patience. I'm really glad that you have the courage to be honest about how you are feeling; and I want to encourage you to seek out new friends and sources of support. We all need safe places where we can open up. You may even consider a counselor, therapist or parenting coach -particularly as you mention depression. If you need help right away, please call a crisis line for a supportive, non-judgmental ear. There is a terrible myth surrounding motherhood - many moms mistakenly believe they are evil or wicked if they feel tired or frustrated...that's simply not true. You will get tired and frustrated sometimes and that's okay. What's not okay is to set yourself to impossible standards that cut you off from support and honest conversations about the real challenges of motherhood.
